As you undoubtedly noticed, I had to cram in a few extra posts at the end of the year here, but I still managed to send 52 of these newsletters in 52 weeks. Hooray, I suppose!
I don’t know what I’ll do with this newsletter in 2023. Try to stick to publishing most Fridays, I guess? I’m unsure if committing to a certain number made me more consistent or simply more willing to post inconsequential (and occasionally very unpolished) material. It was admittedly a good way to chase off my perfectionist tendencies, but I’m not sure it added value for the reader.
But hey, I promised quantity, not quality -- and I delivered! I’m going to count this as a win.
2022 has been a stressful year. I just want next year to be calmer. I’m not abandoning this space, but I doubt I’ll send these as often. For one thing, we all have too many things vying for our attention online. I subscribe to too many newsletters myself, and I figure most of you are in the same boat. I can rarely give them all the attention they deserve, and I hate being part of that problem. Like, you probably don’t need to be pestered with my every random thought! So I’d like to send fewer “contractual obligation” posts and more “stuff I really want to communicate” posts.
Furthermore, I have all of these first-draft novel manuscripts lying around (figuratively speaking -- I didn’t print them out) and no clue how to re-write them to make them worth reading someday. I probably ought to do something about that. I figure re-writing will be my primary writing focus in 2023.
Anyway, let’s hope for a calm, happy, and successful year! Happy New Year!
You did it!🎉
